Stair calculator

All dimensions are in

If you know at least the total rise of the stairs or total run of the stairs, this stair calculator will help you to calculate the stair rise and run, stair angle, stringer length and the number of steps required.

Follow the instructions below to make this form easier to use.

  • Give a tick mark in the checkbox next to the given value to consider it for calculation.
  • Enter at least the total rise of the stairs or total run of the stairs. The total rise distance means the vertical height between the bottom of the first step and the top of the finished landing and the total run of the stairs means the horizontal length of a stair stringer. It is equal to the number of treads multiplied by the typical tread dimension.
