Calculate Text height to be provided in AutoCAD model view to set layout.

When using my previous blog Scale conversion calculator some of my friends asked me how to calculate how much text height should be given in the model view to get the required text height when setting the layout in AutoCAD, How this is calculated is always in doubt. There we can see three scales in the Properties: Annotation Scale, Standard Scale and Custom Scale. They request that you create a blog to help calculate this.

I did not blog this because the calculation is so simple. I replied by e-mail to many friends that how to calculate this, but I do this as a blog because friends keep asking this questions.

How to calculate text height to be provided in AutoCAD model view to set layout?.

Simply we can say that this is text height required in layout divide by scale.

But still you have one more doubt that the scale we are denoted like as 1:10, how we will calculate by using this value. I can explain,

The scale 1:10 means 1/10 (Divide 1 by 10) = 0.1

Text height to be provide in model = Required text height in layout / Scale

For example

The required text height in layout is 3 and the drawing view scale is 1:10,

Then we can calculate the text height to be provide in model  as shown below

Scale 1:10 = 1/10 = 0.1

The required text height in layout = 3

Text height to be provide in model =  3 / 0.1 = 30

Below form will help you to calculate it.

Scale

:

Required text height in layout view

Text height to be provide in model

Decimal

One more simple way is there, When you select viewport in AutoCAD you can see "Custom scale" value in properties table. this is your decimal value for scale, divide required text height in layout value by using this value.

Text height to be provide in model = The required text height in layout / Custom scale

Below form will help you to calculate it.

Custom Scale

Required text height in layout view

Text height to be provide in model

Decimal

But sometimes this value is 0, then follow below steps.

1) Go to Format > Units...

2)  Give precision 0.00

3) Then click OK. You will get "Custom scale" value in properties table when you select your view port.
